AI Jobs in Switzerland: What 156,831 Postings Reveal

Which Swiss employers are asking for AI skills—and which established professions are beginning to use them? We analysed 156,831 job-posting records observed in 2026 to establish an early baseline.

How is AI changing the Swiss job market?

AI demand is not confined to vacancies with “AI Engineer” in the title. The more consequential change may be the spread of AI requirements into jobs that already exist: consultants deploying AI for clients, product managers shaping AI-enabled services, analysts redesigning workflows and governance specialists managing risk.

That distinction is visible in wider Swiss research. PwC’s 2026 Swiss analysis reported that postings requiring AI-related skills represented 1.8% of the Swiss market in 2025. It also found that most additional demand came from AI users—people applying AI in their day-to-day profession—rather than from developers building the underlying technology.

JobLabrador’s early 2026 signal points in the same broad direction: searching only for specialist AI job titles would miss much of the language appearing in skills, responsibilities and product requirements.

Are AI jobs growing in Switzerland?

The honest answer is: the evidence indicates increasing demand, but no single number proves the size of the change. PwC found that Swiss AI-related postings rose by around 9,000 in 2025 and reached a new high. Within JobLabrador’s archive, explicit AI term matches represented approximately 1.85% of records in weeks 8–15 of 2026 and 3.89% in weeks 21–29.

That difference is a research lead, not yet a market-wide growth rate. JobLabrador added and changed sources during the same period. The next release will compare only sources present in both windows and publish a versioned classifier with reviewed precision.

The wider labour market matters too. The Federal Statistical Office reported that total Swiss vacancies were 5% higher year over year in the first quarter of 2026. AI hiring sits inside that changing economic picture, so movements in posting volume should not automatically be attributed to AI.

Which AI jobs are appearing in Switzerland?

The market is better understood as three overlapping groups:

  • AI builders: machine-learning engineers, AI researchers, data scientists and software engineers developing models, infrastructure or AI products.
  • AI implementers: product, consulting, data and transformation roles integrating AI into an organisation or customer workflow.
  • AI users and governors: professionals applying AI within an existing occupation or managing its quality, security, compliance and human oversight.

The third group is easy to overlook because the occupation’s name may not change. This is why we will report both specialist AI roles and established roles that explicitly request AI capability.

AI adoption does not produce one simple employment outcome

A July 2026 Swiss workplace survey summarised by the Swiss SME Portal found that 18% of respondents’ companies had created AI-related positions. At the same time, 11% reported leaving some vacancies unfilled and 7% reported eliminated positions; 42% could not yet assess the staffing effect. Those results are a useful warning against both “AI creates jobs” and “AI destroys jobs” as universal conclusions.

What AI skills do Swiss employers want?

Specialist roles commonly combine machine learning with software engineering, data systems, model evaluation and deployment. Applied roles add a different requirement: enough domain knowledge to decide where AI is useful, where it can fail and where human review must remain.

The most durable capability groups are likely to include:

  • machine learning, deep learning and statistical modelling;
  • large language models, retrieval systems and generative-AI application development;
  • data engineering, APIs, cloud platforms and production monitoring;
  • evaluation, security, privacy, governance and responsible AI;
  • problem definition, communication and judgement inside a specific profession.

These are capability families, not yet a JobLabrador ranking. The ranked Swiss skills table will be published only after normalization and precision review.

What does this mean for Swiss job seekers?

You do not necessarily need to become an AI engineer. For many candidates, the stronger proposition is domain expertise plus evidence that you can use AI responsibly and productively.

  • Describe the problem you solved rather than listing “AI” as a standalone skill.
  • Name the workflow, tool or model involved and explain what remained under human review.
  • Show a measurable result: time saved, quality improved, risk reduced or a new capability delivered.
  • Do not overstate experimentation as production experience.
  • Keep the professional knowledge that lets you recognise a plausible but wrong AI output.

Methodology and limitations

JobLabrador analysed 156,831 completed or expired Swiss job-context records observed between 22 January and 21 July 2026. The archive contains 154,197 unique external URLs. Observation time is the date a posting was processed by JobLabrador; it is not necessarily the employer’s original publication date.

The preliminary AI signal is deterministic term detection across extracted job titles, hard skills, keywords, industries and responsibility statements. Terms include artificial intelligence, generative AI, machine learning, large language models, natural-language processing, computer vision and named generative-AI tools. It is designed to discover the research population, not to infer that every matched role is an AI specialist.

Source coverage expanded and changed during the period. Weekly percentages can therefore reveal an internal signal but cannot, without source normalization, establish a national causal trend. Employer posting dates were present for 73.6% of joined metadata records; 96,476 dates fell within the audit’s plausibility window. Counts describe postings observed, not vacancies filled, people employed or jobs caused by AI.
